History: progress or patterns?

02:04

In this 60-minute lesson plan, students ponder big questions in history: Why is it important to study history? Are we doomed to repeat history or does learning history lead to progress and change? Students use Adobe Acrobat DC to annotate historical documents, tracing human rights of various groups of people as they consider whether history is more reflective of patterns of continuity or of change and progress.

Because Adobe Acrobat enables students to view, create, and manipulate PDF documents, this lesson empowers students to interact with text as they develop inquiry skills and practice historical thinking.

This lesson plan was created by Cristen Magaletti, an Adobe Master Teacher and Adobe Education Leader. Cristen has a MA from NYU in Social Studies and Secondary Education. She has an extensive background in curriculum design and instruction and is a current teacher who has worked in public schools and private schools for decades.
